I have signed up for the Butler Corporate & Executive Education program of the Butler College of Business. I am delighted to be part of a wonderful group of seven fellow female entrepreneurs as we undertake this inaugural program.
A primary goal of the program is to open up the fantastic Butler University faculty to share both academic and practitioner expertise along with wonderful partner resources to local entrepreneurs providing us with personal and professional development, empowering our businesses growth plans.
The group formed initially via referral and outreach and I was thrilled to be added in late fall 2012. Each business owner then had the opportunity to work with the program designers to identify the topics that are of interest and to help craft a curriculum to support the targeted goals. Kick off was in February at the wonderful Brick Street Inn in downtown Zionsville. It was a weekend session that had us focusing on our journeys to entrepreneurship and an examination of our leadership styles. It was also a wonderful bonding experience and, although our businesses are varied, much of our journey, experience and issues overlap – we will certainly learn from each other!
I was excited to head over to the Butler Campus for the first Saturday session covering Marketing, Sales and High Performance Organizations and the material was wonderfully presented by Dick Fetter. netlogx is a company that has primarily grown through partnerships, relationships, referrals and carefully selected responses to requests for proposals. Our updated business model has sales and marketing in our future and so this class provided me several missing pieces that account for some issues I’ve experienced assessing these previously “wooly” areas. I am now looking forward to this area in the business plan because we have tools to apply and strategies to follow that align more with the metrics driven focus I prefer to see.
Next up is a more detailed approach to effective leadership and change management within growing organizations something I am again looking forward to having a deeper appreciation for the practice and disciplines behind effective change and leadership.
