I recently had the pleasure of attending NAWBO’s 11th Annual Trailblazers event hosted at the Conrad hotel in downtown Indianapolis. I really enjoyed the Q&A session which involved a handful of very successful women. Listening to their stories was very enlightening. In particular, I really enjoyed listening to Jan Long speak of her Mr. Canary Company that is known for making birdfeeders. They are also utilizing a company in Marion, IN for production; the production team consists of disabled and/or impaired individuals. It allows them to work and earn an income while producing a product that is sold locally. How much more rewarding can it get? Two sisters started the company some twenty years ago and have been employing these individuals ever since. I found this to be very touching and inspiring. The event created an atmosphere that really brought a smile to my face. I hope to have the opportunity to attend this event again in the future!
“The optimist is someone who figures out that taking a step backward after taking a step forward isn’t a disaster. It’s a cha-cha.” – Jan Long
