For the last two years, I have had the opportunity to volunteer for Meals on Wheels of Central Indiana Annual Fundraiser Event. I love giving back to my community and thank you to my employer, netlogx, for offering Volunteer Service Leave (VSL). It’s like gift giving for me…better to give than receive. Thanks to Norma E. Boyd, Account Executive, McGowan Insurance Group and 2015 Meals on Wheels Board Member – Chair of Special Events for asking me to help her with this enormous project.
Norma spends many hours prepping for the event along with other Meals on Wheels team members and volunteers. I have the luxury of showing up the morning of the event to follow her instructions to assist with the tablescapes. It is a very well-oiled machine and in a matter of hours a banquet hall is transformed into a fabulous themed event. The theme was: Bingo Bash – BOOTS BOOZE BINGO! It was Meals on Wheels’ 21st annual event. It was a Night of Boot Scootin’ Fun! Guests donned their cowboy boots, kicked up their heels and enjoyed a night of Hootin’ and Hollerin’ to raise funds for a worthwhile and much needed community organization in Indianapolis.
Meals on Wheels of Central Indiana innovates, educates and collaborates to secure nutritional health and independent living for our senior, disabled and homebound neighbors. Meals on Wheels has no waiting list. New clients typically begin receiving meals less than a week after signing up for services!
Quick Facts about Meals on Wheels of Central Indiana:
- 44 years of service
- 5 days a week (Monday – Friday)
- 500+ deliveries a day
- 2 meals a day (hot and cold)
3 benefits to companies who offer VSL:
- Helps in recruiting engaged, ambitious and committed team members (great way to attract Millennials).
- Keeps and maintains the best talent you recruited; loyalty to your company.
- Creates much-needed social impact during a time when many communities desperately need a positive influence. Enabling your team members to volunteer is another important way your company can give back.
I’m grateful I have the opportunity to volunteer thanks to VSL offered by netlogx, my friend, Norma who is an avid community volunteer and my desire to give back to those who are in need.
