As we begin this year’s journey to the Medicaid Enterprise Systems Conference, I am looking forward to sharing with other state attendees all of the exciting work we have been doing with our existing state and private sector clients in the area of Business Process Re-engineering (BPR). While BPR does not bring a vision of immediate excitement to mind, the process is actually quite enlightening to both our clients and ourselves. The ability to collectively review and document existing business processes for the purpose of identifying roadblocks, negative influences, areas of rework, wasted effort and potential cost savings is very satisfying.

Our current BPR methodology is unique in the marketplace.   The cornerstone of our methodology is the facilitated BPR mapping sessions where everything is discussed and documented in real-time for all participants to see, digest and provide feedback. These sessions are used to gather business information, draft and review swim-lane process maps, while at the same time identifying associated issues and developing recommendations to remediate those issues.

An investment in BPR can quickly provide the tools necessary to not only document existing processes, but also build the roadmap toward future changes and enhancements. BPR provides an opportunity to fully understand the process you are working with before you try to fix it, identify root causes of issues encountered and identify and review assigned resources. By understanding the current processes, you can better identify the impacts of change and drive the future requirements necessary to insure efficiencies are realized. Our experienced BPR teams can assist in identifying the why’s of the current process issues as well as the how’s of your solutions while turning over a complete set of living documents for use in the future.  I look forward to exciting discussions with state attendees about our BPR experiences and reporting their feedback from MESC 2016.
