Kindness: the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate.
In today’s often grim world kindness is becoming ever more important. It is refreshing to see news stories such as pupils handing out notes of kindness to strangers in Greater Manchester. There are the little random acts of kindness appearing across Cincinnati as part of the city-wide campaign called #Kindflash. This year’s the proceeds from the Britannia Club’s 5K St. Patrick’s Day Irish Jog will go towards the Acts of Random Kindness grass roots organization to name but a few of the stories.
At netlogx we place great value on treating each other with respect and kindness, both of which form part of our core Operating Principles. Kindness is in fact our focus Operating Principle for February and we encourage and recognize team members’ Random Acts of Kindness at our quarterly team building meetings. The simplest thing such as surprising a co-worker a coffee if you know they are having a challenging day can make all the difference to that person.
Smile! Smiling can help to reduce stress, help to make somebody feel better and is free – plus it is difficult to frown if somebody is smiling at you! Smiles are powerful given that they can cut through gender, race, age, cultural and language barriers. Everybody understands the universal message that a smile brings, and it is an easy way of spreading a little bit of kindness to others in your day.
This year the National Random Acts of Kindness Day is observed on February 17. Individuals, groups and companies celebrate the day by encouraging acts of kindness across the nation.
What will you do this month to spread some kindness?
