Recently, I had the pleasure to serve on a panel for the Women & Hi Tech’s “Special Edition” Executive Women’s ForumA Double Whammy or Triple Threat: The Disparity of Diversity Amongst Women in STEM.

“Dimensions of Diversity” graphic was shared with attendees. When we interact with a group of people, we typically think of the first layer or internal dimensions of diversity (age, gender, race…) when we think about diversity.  However, this graphic demonstrates there are other dimensions of diversity beyond those common or traditional features.

As you meet and interact with people over the coming month and beyond, consider looking beyond those traditional traits; don’t make snap judgements. Instead, wait and tell your mind to STALL.

  • Stop judging. Consider your thoughts. Notice when a judgement is forming and stop it.
  • Try walking in their footsteps. Have a conversation with them to understand where they are coming from and where they are going.
  • Accept them. Once you know them, accept the person for who they are and don’t try to change them.
  • Love them. Even if you don’t know them or have disliked them in the past, love them as a human being.

Are you up for the challenge? Start with a day, then a week, make judgement-free living part of your daily life and soon it will become a good habit.
