For the 2021 calendar year, netlogx provided its consultants with a bonus that was predicated on using it for something that inspired positivity in your life. I am always humbled by the generosity of our senior leadership and owners, and I immediately started my plans for the Mini Bar I would most certainly build with this bonus. The more I thought about it though, the less I thought a Mini Bar would add to the positivity in my life, and I found myself struggling for things to think of that could meet the criteria. At first, I thought I would go on some kind of trip that could enhance my positivity, but as I thought about that more, I started to think that a trip would be a one-off kind of positivity. Don’t get me wrong, memories last a lifetime and vacations/trips are one of the best ways to create lasting memories with friends and loved ones, but I eventually wanted to do something that would continue to inspire positivity. This brought me back to the thing I have done the longest which inspires positivity in my life, which is being a musician. That was what I was going to use my positivity bonus for, enhancing my home studio, I just couldn’t think of what to enhance since pretty much all music gear is expensive.
As I thought about the idea of positivity and what that meant to me, I was reminded of some equipment that had inspired me as a kid. When I was in grade school and high school, I would always visit the local Guitar Center and play on the drums in the back and try out different cymbals. If you are unfamiliar, cymbals are just hunks of metal that eventually get turned into a litany of different sounds via machining, and in some cases, hand hammering. Everything from the chemical makeup of the core metal to the thickness and size of the cymbal will affect its sound. As a kid I fell in love with the Zildjian K line of cymbals which were lightyears out of my price range, and specifically I loved the K Custom Dark line. These are a darker sounding, very ambient cymbal that has lots of low-end range but are still dynamic enough to be played in Jazz settings. So, with the help of netlogx, I picked up a pack of these cymbals and added them to my drumkit pictured below.
Every time I play these, I am reminded of the kid and drummer I once was and all the work and dedication I have put towards the craft. Then when I hit them, I am always amazed by how incredible they sound, and I am inspired to play more and experiment with the sound of the new cymbals on the kit. Each time I sit down to play, it is an amazingly positive experience, and has been for the 19 short years I have been at it. A big thank you to netlogx for helping make this dream come true!
