What brings you joy?
A lot of things bring me joy; I am an explorer. Discovery is a real source of joy for me. As it relates to Project Management, the exploration of different aspects brings me joy. On a personal note, I love learning a new instrument as a musician.
What are you most afraid of?
I am most afraid of that moment before you initiate a project or the moment right before a performance. The anticipation makes me just want to push the start button!
What would you like to learn?
I would like to learn a lot in Project Management because of all the unique clients, projects and requirements. Specifically, I’d like to learn more about testing processes on software and how they can validate systems.
Who or what inspires you?
At netlogx, we have a lot of all-stars. Joan Callahan has inspired me through displaying how to be an engaging Project Manager. Listening and talking to her helps frame the way I look at things.
Personally, as a wrestling coach, Dan Gable and Cael Sanderson inspire me for what they have done and did for the sport.
If you could talk to your teenage self, what would you say?
If I could talk to my teenage self, I would tell him to settle down a little and try to be more specialized in what I did in high school. With my love of discovery, I tried everything offered to me. So, I was in musicals and four (4) sports all year long. I would have liked to have gotten really good at one of them.
What is your favorite book or movie and why?
My favorite movie is Braveheart because it captures so many great themes. From the iconic story of a hero discovering his mission and overcoming obstacles to the love story, Braveheart shows so much.
Forest Whitaker is my favorite actor. Lately, I’ve been watching him play a character that is a coach. Since I, myself, am a coach, I really like how he portrays the character with sound principals.
What have you, or would you, write on the netlogx Before I Die wall?
I would write my family’s goal of climb a mountain together while backpacking.
What does Project/Program Management mean to you?
To me, Project/Program management can be thought of simply. Referring to The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey, it’s all about starting with the end in mind. Once you have a goal, work backwards on it. I did this a lot growing up without realizing or using the lingo for it. As a wrestling captain, I helped set our goal of winning the state championship. From there, I worked backwards, noting what tournaments we needed to win all the way down to specific habits all the wrestlers needed to exhibit. There is an academic approach to Project Management, but there is a practical side that has clicked with me, now it’s formalized.
What does wellness at netlogx mean to you?
To me, wellness at netlogx has developed very well. From our beginnings to where we are now with monthly challenges and so much flexibility with our Wellness Reimbursement Dollars, netlogx team members have regular opportunities to engage and increase our personal wellness. netlogx is also intentional on how we can improve our wellness initiatives and actively desire the better wellness of our team members. netlogx has a holistic approach to how we treat our team members.
What is a fun fact about you?
A fun fact about me is that, during lockdown, I have completely transformed our garage into one of the nicest gyms I have seen! We have everything from wrestling and jujitsu mats to the capability to do hot yoga, we have it all!
What is the most exciting thing you’ve ever done or place you’ve ever been?
The most exciting, and honestly impactful, thing I’ve ever done was to quit my first job out of college and go work as a counselor at a wilderness school in Virginia. The recruitment process was so quick that I only had two weeks to move out there. I learned so many skills and really grew up during my time there. I have so many great stories from it too!
