We often hear how important team work is to athletic organizations. However, I believe team work is essential in nearly every group endeavor that can be conceived. But, why? The driving force of a productive and successful group is embracing a particular belief, goal or ideal that is greater than any of one individual or subset of individual’s personal aspirations. The results are powerful, contagious and energizing.
In our nation, the genius of team is best exemplified by athletic teams. In the history of sports in America, the past is honeycombed with examples of teams who were less talented than their competitors, yet were able to overcome their lesser abilities and secure victory through team work. Generally, these groups of individuals rally around a set of core beliefs that are the foundation of their success. Witness in recent years the extraordinary success of the Butler Bulldogs basketball team. While I do not mean diminish the skills of the Butler players, in comparison to other powerhouse college teams in the NCAA, the Bulldogs would not measure up as one of the elite teams. Yet, their commitment to team drove them to two consecutive years in the final game of the NCAA Tournament.
How was team manifested? Watching the Bulldogs, you would witness uncharacteristic unselfishness. They exemplified the beauty of team defense with amazing hustle, disciplined technique, proper positioning and a commitment to each individual fulfilling their role. Offensively, again, hustle and technique were hallmarks of their play. Discipline, strong picks, smart passing, ball control and floor spacing were critical to executing their team offense. Without a doubt, those attributes had to be taught, drilled and emphasized over hundreds of practice hours.
Those same characteristics can drive amazing results in the business world, as well. netlogx has committed itself to ideals that expand well beyond personal aspirations.
