This past summer I was asked to coordinate the Rotary Club of Indianapolis’ internal service project for Indy Do Day.

I had participated in the event last year which was sponsoring a Meal Packing Event benefitting Pack Away Hunger.  I had really enjoyed the experience and other netlogx team members had joined me. So, without hesitation I contacted Pack Away Hunger and began the planning process for a successful 2016 event.

For those of you that know me, when I take on a previously established project, I always review what worked well (if it’s not broke don’t fix it) and lessons learned (where could improvements be made). Pack Away Hunger project 2016 was no different.

After review, we determined the room set-up, lunch before the meal packing event and the willingness of Rotarians to make a difference worked very well.  Lessons learned were registration could be automated, team captains and heavy lifters need to be identified before hand and a clean-up committee need to be designated.  I am proud to say all three were implemented with the fantastic collaboration of the Rotary Club of Indianapolis staff and the Pack Away Hunger staff!

On Tuesday, September 27, 2016 the Indianapolis Rotary Club packed an incredible 11,664 Nutri-Plenty meals!  These meals were delivered to Gleaners Food Bank,  where they will make a difference in our community. 1 in 6 Hoosiers struggles to get enough food to eat. Your meals will meet that need at food pantries across central Indiana.
